The Battle of Chalons

On this day in ancient history - June 20:

According to J.B. Bury, in A.D. 451. Attila the Hun and his forces met the Roman forces of Theodoric and Flavius Aetius (like Justinian, one of the "last of the Romans") at the Catalaunian Fields somewhere in northern France. The battle was bloody and Attila suffered a setback, but it wasn't a conclusive victory for the Romans, either.

The Battle of Chalons is also called Battle of the Catalaunian Fields or the Battle of Campus Mauriacus.
