Render Unto King Manessah

Since it's Tax Day in the U.S., and since Biblical Archaeology printed an article on the 8th century B.C. bullae serving to record taxes paid in various forms, you may wish to read How Ancient Taxes Were Collected Under King Manasseh:A new bulla inscribed in paleo-Hebrew provides evidence of Judah's tax system. The article says the king was unpopular, at least with Biblical authors, but still ruled for 55 years, maintaining relative peace by means of very heavy taxes partly used to pay tributes to the Assyrians and partly used for building projects.
