Aeschylus © Clipart.com Aeschylus was the first of the 3 renowned prize-winning Greek tragedians in Athens. He is said to have won 13 and 28 prizes. The smaller figure may refer to prizes Aeschylus won at the Great Dionysia, and the larger figure to prizes he won there and at other, smaller festivals. The smaller number, though, represents awards for 52 plays, since each award is for 3 tragedies and a satyr play where there is also chorus, but it is made up of earthy satyrs, and the themes are mythological, but less serious than those of tragedy.
